Autumn is upon us, which means cosying up by the fire with a hot chocolate after carving pumpkins all day! sigh. Doesn't that sound like the most perfect way to spend a rainy autumnal day?

As Autumn is by far my most favourite season, not only for fashion (were talking plaid scarves, chunky boots, long coats, knits!) but for my Instagram feed, I thought it was only fitting to create 8 festive presets so that you too can have a beautiful, cosy feed!

Below is a brief description and introduction to these 8 presets! (How cute are the names of these presets though???)

Bonfire - A clear and bright preset, desaturating yellows and greens and adding a chilly vibe overall. If you aren't a fan of the yellow looking feed, this is for you!

Cosy - As it sounds, a cosy warm hue adding a rich brown, autumnal vibe to your pics!

Foggy - Similar to Cosy, but deeper, richer and more vibrant!

Hayride - A yellow/green tinted preset, great for those days when the sun wasn't out to play. A beautiful, rich preset!

Maple - A pinky, peachy vibe. Adds a lovely vintage hue to your photo!

Pecan - A bright, rich yellow preset. Unlike the rest! Best at neutralising heavy blue/cool toned pictures!

Pumpkin - (my fave!) it's as it sounds!

Rain - Vibrant, bright and rich! Purple and Aqua mid-tones and highlights for that chilly vibe!

These presets are great for fashion pics, flat-lays and detail photos that are overly blue or were shot on an overcast day! When shooting outdoors, lighting for the most part, is completely out of our control. The colder it gets, the darker and more blue our photos end up looking. These presets will help bring the warmth back to your photos and add that touch of crisp autumn sunshine you've been itching for! Editing has just become that much easier!

These presets add an autumnal flare to your pics but don't dilute the important colours, such as reds (lips, hair, skin tone, clothing), oranges, yellows and greens (skin, hair, clothing, autumn leaves on the ground!). Colours such as aquas, blues, purples (sky, buildings/reflections, pavement/road, jeans, some whites on clothing/accessories) are desaturated on some presets to reduce that 'chilly' feeling to your photos.

If you find that the oranges are too dark or the purple hues make your clothing look odd, please don't worry! Simply reduce or increase the saturation and/or luminance in Lightroom (free app you'll need for the presets to be of use!). We're all made up of different hair colours, skin tones or shades and we all wear different clothing and makeup and shoot in a variety of locations. I've tried my absolute hardest to make sure these presets fit a majority of people, but chances are, there will be some presets that need a little tweaking after downloading! That's completely normal! If you find yourself struggling to put your finger on what exactly needs tweaking, be sure to pop me a message via email or Instagram and we'll get to the bottom of it!

LIGHTING TIPS!

The best advice for making sure these presets work their very best on your photos is to make sure you have good lighting (morning sunshine, mid-day/overhead sun or golden hour are your friends!) After the sun sets behind those tall buildings, you can guarantee your photos will be darker, grainier and much more blue! Want more tips? Keep reading!

  • When shooting out and about, try to avoid direct sun on your face as this can wash you out. When it comes to editing, it'll be hard for the editing software to tell the difference between you and your background. This is especially harder on photos taken on phones/mobiles compared to professional cameras!

  • If you shoot outdoors, shoot in locations that are flat and spacious (open field/road), allowing the light to bounce evenly within your surroundings.

  • Some of the best lighting can be found when you position yourself directly behind the sun (backlit), use the sun as a prop (to create patterns on yourself, objects, backgrounds etc) or when the sun isn't fully out at all! Cloudy days with occasional sun make for the best lighting in my opinion.

  • If you are shooting indoors, it's best to position yourself near direct light and shooting in a room that has a lot of space for the light to bounce off the walls. Taking advantage of the sun that shines through the window in the morning and evening can also make for great light sources too!

DID YOU KNOW...? Each preset is roughly worth 87p - A BARGAIN - so you really can't go wrong!
